RPS International Print Exhibition 2009Tuesday, March 10. 2009
Finally, after three years of trying, I have had a pinhole photograph accepted into the highly-competitive Royal Photographic Society annual print exhibition. It has been an interesting process of entering and facing rejection for the work which I feel to be the most powerful I have produced whiist, at the same time, having my "snaps" accepted. I hope it doesn't sound ungrateful or arrogant to say that I have felt dogged by relative success!
Thankfully, though, this time round I had my personal favourite image accepted out of the many thousands submitted from around the world for the 125 print touring exhibtion which opens in London on the 19th May.

Hi Mark, I totally understand your comment above. Sometimes, it seems frustrating with all the work that goes into making images and then having adjudicators who cannot see the forest for the trees.
I suppose beauty is in the eye of the beholder, Bob. Also the judges have a tough time and must reach visual saturation during the time it takes to adjudicate so I don't mean to be harsh. In fact, not having your own judgment vindicated is an education in itself and often reveals - at least partially - how others view one's work.
Having said all that, I think photography can be susceptible to the "bling" factor where fancy technical effects end up glamourising a content-poor image. Additionally, when viewed simultaneously with a subtler image it seems often to be that the subtler one loses out. This is the downside of group shows, I guess.
This is excellent, Mark! Congratulations! The piece is gorgeous.
